Fellowship Ministry |
Prior to the morning worship, we enjoy coffee fellowship at 9:30am. On the first Sunday of each month, we have coffee fellowship following the worship service to enable Pr. Darrell and Wendy to visit with the folks of First. Coffee, goodies, and friendly conversation are a good way to begin a meaningful morning. The QuiltersMission quilting has been a part of First Lutheran for as long as any of our quilters can recall. The ladies met in the church basement every Tuesday at 9 a.m. from October through April. They brought their lunch and stayed as long as anyone wanted to continue working. The early quilters obtained their quilting materials from personal used clothing and items not sold at the annual rummage sale. Sheets were saved for backing, and the unsold articles of clothing were taken apart. Zippers and buttons were removed and saved. Some articles of clothing only produced one quilt block. A frequent comment heard from the men on quilt Sunday was, “That’s where my favorite shirt disappeared to”. The ladies said it was more than just quilting; it was also a time for fellowship and sharing. Quilting now involves less initial labor as most of the material is donated by Anderson Fabrics of Blackduck. Twin size sheets are donated and batting is donated or purchased from the proceeds of the quilts that sell for $50.00 each. Cathy and Shane spend many hours of time at home sewing blocks together. The final assembly is completed at church. The quilters continue to meet every Tuesday morning from 9 to 11:30, October through April. Everyone is welcome. This year the quilters completed 103 quilts. We don’t know who will receive the Lutheran World Relief quilts, but they are given in the joy in which they are made and in the hope of surrounding the recipients with comfort and warmth. |
